The waters were still

                              And it was dark

                          The wind was silent

                              And it was cold

                          The earth was barren

                              Without clothing

                     The wind whirled the waters

                           Up into the heaven

                                To drop the first spindle

                          Spinning earthwards

                              Finger rain

                                                     And the sun brought light

                       To spin the first thread

                         Chained eyes of colour

                            Made the first whorl

                               The dew.

                                                 And the earth was clothed

With the warmth of that thread

                      Star-seed from the spinning

                    Once quickened in its cradle

                              To life
